Children and Mom’s work towards strengthening bonds

Our Child Development Centre located in the Shelter offers several programs to our youngest clients whose lives have been impacted by witnessing or experiencing domestic violence and abuse. The year marked the launch of our Creative Connections Program as part of the CDC.

Creative Connections is a direct response to the feedback received in consultation with our clients, the mothers, who asked us to focus more on healing and strengthening their relationships with their children..This group and one-on-one programming uses play and art based therapy and psycho-education techniques as mediums to strengthen the mother-child bond. The program curriculum draws on attachment theory, emerging practices in art therapy, as well as mindfulness techniques and has been developed in consultation with community experts using emerging research.
