An innovative space for hope and healing
The Harvest Table is an exciting new venture for Discovery House. The Harvest Table project is possible thanks to our core funders, The Calgary Foundation and P.E.A.R.L. Foundation, as well as our lead in-kind partner, Inside Out Design Studio, who has designed the space and is coordinating and executing the renovation. Discovery House would also like to thank the many sponsors and supporters who have funded this important project.
This space is intended to further support women and children traumatized by domestic violence as they heal, rebuild their lives and become equipped to live independently, free from domestic violence. The aim of this space is to combat food insecurity and the adverse effects of this trauma by bringing survivors together in a communal space where they can prepare nourishing meals together while building healing connections.
Once completed, the Harvest Table will feature large transitional work spaces and commercial appliances to support life skills programming and culinary therapy as families learn about nutrition, food safety, meal preparation, how to shop for nutritious groceries on a budget, and enjoy healthy meals together.
Located in the heart of the shelter, an under-utilized common room will be transformed into an open, safe and warm space that facilitates socialization and creates a community for our mothers and children during a critical turning point in their lives.
